Research Group: Global Tropospheric Modeling

Group Home Page

Scientific Objectives

The Global Tropospheric Modeling group is using several 3-D chemical models to study chemistry-climate interactions and the impact of chemistry and transport on air quality. The Model for OZone And Related chemical Tracers (MOZART) is a global 3-D chemical transport model driven by offline meteorological fields, that has been developed at NCAR, the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology, and NOAA/GFDL. The chemical mechanism from MOZART has been incorporated into the Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) to produce a fully coupled chemistry-climate model, CAM-Chem. To study air quality questions on a finer scale, the regional model WRF-Chem, which includes chemistry in the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF), is being used.
